COO’s Report

I’m Gordon McKellar. I'm the Chief Operating Officer at Future Fund. My team is known as Investment and Business Operations and its core responsibility is to enable the investors and enable the organisation. We've had an incredibly productive year. We're in the second year of our three-year strategy and we're making really good progress. My team has primarily been responsible for supporting a couple of the agency’s priorities: refreshing the investment model, and maturing the organisation. 

Some of our [the Future Fund’s] more significant achievements have been around the uplift in technology and data, the establishment of our Learning and Development Academy, and also what we've achieved from our organisation-wide Risk Governance Review; so really looking at our current risk management model across the enterprise and across investments.

My top three priorities for the year are for us [the IBO Team] to continue to leverage new and emerging technology, to uplift our knowledge management and research capabilities, and to continue to look at how we develop this partnership model with the business. Developing our partnership model further - this is about providing greater support and enablement to our colleagues across the organisation.

Over the past few years, we’ve made a significant investment in new technology and providing a wider range of investment data to the investment team. This has resulted over the last year in being able to implement a new performance management system, and also being able to provide more private markets data and greater transparency through the portfolio.

Another aspect of our technology strategy and our focus over the course of the last year has been on cybersecurity and making sure that we've got the capabilities to prevent, detect, and respond to any cyber events.

Our One Team approach, both from an investing perspective and also how we work together, is a critical part of the Future Fund’s success. We have some incredibly talented people. From a learning and development perspective, over the course of the coming year, I’d like us to be able to focus on how we further develop those individuals and make them the best they can be.
